Young Urban Males: The New Minority In America
This is a straight talk workshop examining racial profiling facts: the interactions between the police, Hispanic/Latino and Black males. This workshop will also examine how young urban males portray themselves and how they are perceived by others in America.
Session One: Racial Profiling –Shafiq Abdussabur, the author of A Black Man’s Guide to Law Enforcement in America will use his experience and expertise gathered from being on both sides of the police badge to uncover the issues of communication, perception and the truth behind racial profiling and young urban males.
Session Two: Red Hoodies – As a leading expert in urban program development aimed at reducing gun violence, Abdussabur will discuss how the image of young urban males is influenced by race, ethnicity and class within America. He will also discuss how parents and educators play a key role.
